The Kenya Intersex Task-force established by the Attorney General, Honourable Githu Muigai visited Uganda hosted by SIPD – Uganda in order to engage and learn from different stakeholders so that they are in position to recommend comprehensive reforms on the existing policy, institutional, legislative, medical and administrative structures and systems governing intersex persons in Kenya in order to safe guard their interests. The team is working towards developing reforms which uphold the rights and dignity of intersex persons in Kenya.
Community and government actors together with various other stakeholders shared best practices and challenges in various meetings, which provided the team with strategic tools and skills to
- Promote organizational-specific community project development
- Locate partnerships between various community and government groups in order to facilitate multi-directional advocacy campaigns; and
- Develop broader inter-sectional and inter-regional initiatives dedicated to empowering populations on society’s margins – intersex populations being of specific interest.
The visit was to encourage a greater regional networking and project collaboration in the strategic action areas of education, legal intervention, and public health and youth participation in community processes that promote the human rights of intersex people.
