Today is a reminder that awareness must translate into understanding, dignity and meaningful support for intersex people, beginning at home. Going from visibility to family support.
For intersex children, the family environment can shape how they experience their bodies, access healthcare, understand themselves and navigate the world. Parents and caregivers deserve acess to reliable information and supportive guidance to help their children with love, confidence and respect.
As we mark this important milestone, SIPD Uganda is pround to launch its Parents’ Guide – caring for your intersex child.
This practical guide helps supports parents ansd caregivers to understand intersex variations, navigate healthcare decisions, protect their children’s privacy , communicate openly as their children grow and create environments where every child feels safe, loved and accepted.
This is more than a publication, it is a step towards ensuring that families are not left to navigate the intersex journey alone and that intersex children grow up with the care, information and support they deserve.
As we reflect on three decades of intersex awareness, let us continue moving from awareness to action, silence to understanding and stigma to love. Every intersex child deserves a family and a community where they can grow, belong and thrive without having to change who they are to be valued.
